Glock continues to make changes to their pistols when they see necessary to keep at the top of the list for best police guns. Recently Glock made some changes that are going to impact the Glock guns greatly. The changes made by Glock were introduced as the Glock Gen4 pistols and described by Glock as the "next generation of perfection".

So what does the Glock Gen4 pistols consist of? To start with there are currently two Glock pistols available in the Generation 4; the Glock 17 and the Glock 22. Just like the original Glock 17 and Glock 22 pistols they are designed off the safe action system. The Glock safe action system deals with trigger safety, firing pin safety, and drop safety. In addition to the safety action system the Glock Gen4 pistols also feature a durable exterior finish, cold hammer forged barrel, and relatively lightweight.

While the Glock Gen4 pistols do have some similarities there are some differences, hence the new Glock pistols! Here are the new features in the Glock Gen4 pistols.

Multiple Back Strap- This means the new Glock Gen4 pistols can have variable thicknesses in the grip. This allows the user to customize the thickness of the grip to their liking. The standard grip is slightly smaller than the current Glock guns, the medium grip is standard, and the large grip is slightly larger than the current Glock pistols. These grips are secured and changed with a single pin.

Reduced Trigger Pull- As a result of the multiple back strap, the trigger pull on the new Glock 17 and Glock 22 pistols have been reduced by 2mm when the grip has not been modified. When the medium back strap has been applied, that adds 2mm to the trigger pull which makes it the same as the non Glock Gen4 pistols. Adding the large back strap to the Gen4 pistols will add 4mm to the reduced trigger pull.

Rough Texture Frame- Glock knew that a lot of people were putting textured grips over the Glock grip so they addressed that issue. In the Glock Gen4 pistols the grip of the pistols now have a textured pattern on them. This is called the Gen4 RTF standing for Generation 4 rough texture frame.

New Magazine Release Catch- The magazine release catch in the new Glock Gen4 pistols are reversible and enlarged. This allows the shooter to place the release on either side of the pistol and also have easier access to it.

Magazine- The new Gen4 magazines have been changed so that they can operate with any and all existing magazine catches.

Recoil Spring- The old Glock pistols recoil spring has been replaced with a dual coil spring. This reduces the overall recoil and improves the life of the recoil spring.

As Best Police Guns stated the new Glock Gen4 pistols are available in the Glock 17 and Glock 22. The Glock 17 is a 9mm pistol while the Glock 22 is a .40 caliber pistol. Both of these Glock guns come standard with polymer sights but are available with steel, steel night sight, steel luminescent, and polymer adjustable sights.
