Glock is manufactured in Austria and are the most popular police guns in the entire world. They are carried by local law enforcement officers, federal officers, and military personal. It is said that nearly 65% of all law enforcement officers carry a Glock. Glock pistols became popular back in the early 1980's when the Austria government wanted a replacement to the Walther P38. They gave prospective manufactures a long list of specific needs and Glock had a working prototype within 3 months! It has only been up hill since then for Glock! Not only does Glock produce pistols, but they also offer knives and tactical lights. This Glock review is going to give you a basic overview of the Glock pistols.

One of the things that make Glock standout is the material that they are made of. The Glock frame, magazine body and several other components are made of a high-strength nylon-based polymer. This material was invented by Gaston Glock…hence the name Glock! This plastic was specially formulated to provide increased durability and is more resilient than carbon steel and most steel alloys. The polymer frame is very durable and can take a beating. That is why it is very popular among police guns.

Glock is considered to be a safe action pistol. What does safe action pistol mean? Glock has coined this term for the firing pin lock system that is in all the Glock pistols. This firing pin lock system consists of one external and two internal safeties which use a striker-engaged firing pin, rather than the more traditional hammer-engaged. It uses additional precautions to prevent the firing pin from moving or being struck if the firearm were to be dropped or shaken. It is specifically designed so that the firearm will only fire when the trigger is pulled. There are three safeties in the Glock pistols and those safeties are:

  1. Trigger Safety: An external lever mechanism contained within the trigger that prevents the trigger from moving unless the lever is depressed.
  2. Striker Safety: A spring-loaded pin attached by an extension bar to the trigger assembly blocks the striker from striking the primer of the cartridge until the trigger is pulled.
  3. Drop Safety: The far end of the same extension bar locks the striker into place from the rear until the trigger is pulled.
